A week with Legends of Slots
I didn't expect to keep Legends of Slots on my phone past the first day. It's a casual game about spinning reels of fantasy symbols, and on paper that's about as simple as a mobile game gets. But something about the loop kept me opening it, and a week later it's still there.
The core is this: you tap to spin, the reels roll, and you're trying to complete themed collections. Knights, dragons, chests, that sort of thing. Each finished set plays a little animation that's genuinely satisfying, and the hand-drawn art does a lot of heavy lifting. The symbols have character, and that makes the simple act of spinning feel nicer than it has any right to.
Controls couldn't be easier — one tap, maybe a swipe to switch between theme sets once you've unlocked them. That accessibility is the whole point. It's a game for the gaps in your day, not for marathon sessions. I played it waiting for coffee, in queues, on the sofa during adverts.
If I have a note, it's that longer sessions start to feel samey. There isn't a huge amount of variety to pull you deeper, and after twenty minutes straight I was ready to put it down. But that's maybe missing the point. As a short, bright, low-stakes thing to dip into, Legends of Slots does exactly what it sets out to do, and it does it with more polish than I expected.
So: not a game that'll consume your month, but a well-made little comfort tap. I'm keeping it around.
